Ideas on how to go about this, including recommended websites would be appreciated. I am fit and active still surfing and cycling and would Adventure travel for singles over 50 to travel to the more exotic parts of the world, preferably with mixed age group of solo travellers 30 to I am retired with plenty of time and no budget restrictions.
If you want companies rather than travelling solo try Exodus, Adventure Travel I like their ideas tho have never been with them or an American company who may have a younger demographic is Adventure Life. You need to sort out your own flights for this but they will arrange for transfers from airport to hotel for a small fee as you wouldn't be arriving with the group.
Following on from all the advice given above I would add to first of all read up, the definition of exotic is large and wide and you should be more specific in what you are seeking. You are a young 50's person which is good surfing and cycling there is much out there to choose from. Your idea of solo is travelling is with a mixed group of Adventure travel for singles over 50 in a packaged tour, as apposed to going off alone, there is nothing wrong with that.
I find it boring to spend my time in a drab bar in the evening talking with people you would typically avoid back home. When in Rome, I say.
There are many options out there to choose from. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I have looked at Exodus travel and they do seem to have great variety.
I will research this further. I will also look at "Singles" organisations although the few that I have looked at seem a bit routine and lacking adventure. Many thanks for your advice. I know what you mean about travelling in a group.
So much depends on who else is going. I spent 3 weeks travelling on my own in Costa Rica between Liberia and Malpais. Thoroughly enjoyed myself wonderful surf, small rainforest and weather but it was a bit isolated being on my own and not speaking any Spanish. Unfortunately my friends are either working or lack an adventurous spirit - I am now in my sixtys and still going strong, I will continue to search through the internet etc, and appreciate your ideas.

It isn't a singles tour, but it looks as if there are enough "experiences" to keep you happy and occupied whether the other travellers are your cup of tea or not.
I haven't take Inside Japan's tours before, although I have met some of the guides at the Destinations Show last year. They seemed knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
If you don't feel you need to travel with others, you might consider hiking the Kumano Kodo, a year old Shinto pilgrimage trail, or riding a bike around to the 88 temples on Adventure travel for singles over 50 although Inside Japan can provide private guides for various places and adventures as well. I don't usually go back to places I have been, but I have been finding Japan so various and interesting that I am hooked.
There are mountains to climb, oceans to snorkel with manta rays, skiing, monasteries to stay at, people to help if you want, IJ can organise an opportunity to help with the clearing up from the Tsunami.
That would be a group experience worth having. It might also be worth your looking at the G-adventures website formally Gap Adventures.
